Coffee Estate Wedding Experiences at Finca San Mateo

Finca San Mateo is a unique and romantic setting for a destination wedding in Antigua Guatemala. Your special celebration will take place in the immersive experience of a unique private luxury country estate, a working coffee plantation growing some of the finest coffee in the world, surrounded by a unique combination of nature, landscape and architecture.

Each year we host a limited number of intimate coffee estate destination weddings, intentionally designed for couples who value presence, privacy, and a deep connection to place. At almost 2000 meters above sea level overlooking mountain, forest and volcanic landscapes, the ceremony, the music, the food, and the company of loved ones create the space to build an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience.

All celebrations at Finca San Mateo are scaled for up to 100 guests and are full estate buyouts allowing the exclusive use of the property, including a beautiful Renaissance style chapel and garden for ceremonies and an expansive cobblestoned courtyard for cocktails and dinner receptions. The gardens and courtyards offer breathtaking views over the forested valley and Agua Volcano, providing great settings for photography and video.

Our Signature Weekend Wedding Experiences also include two nights luxury accommodation for up to 16 guests and family in the Hacienda main house and the Nest cottage, with breakfast included.

Luxury transportation is included for wedding guests staying at hotels in downtown Antigua Guatemala, just 10 minutes away, and private parking spaces are provided for the bridal party.

The Estate Gate Court

Finca San Mateo is located just ten minutes from downtown Antigua Guatemala. It is a sprawling mountain property with natural forests, gardens and — at 1,900 meters above sea level— volcanic soils and cool, dry winters, with one of the best coffee-growing terroirs in the world.

Guests arrive from Antigua in luxury coaches and are received at the estate's Gate Court, providing extraordinary views over the valley and Agua volcano. This moment is designed to mark the transition into the estate, a perfect blend of dramatic and rugged landscape, nature, architecture and luxury that epitomizes the unique allure of Antigua Guatemala.

The Estate Courtyard

The ceremonial and social heart of the estate, this formal space is set in the coffee drying courtyard.

Framed by the hacienda façade and its central staircase, with beautiful views to the forested valley and the volcano, it is perfect for aperitivo promenades, alfresco dinners, and gatherings.

Imagine a single long imperial table seating all guests for a candlelit celebration!

The Hacienda

Overlooking the courtyard, the Hacienda anchors the estate both architecturally and experientially. A select group of family or the bridal party may stay at the Hacienda and enjoy Finca San Mateo's five-star hospitality.

The Hacienda offers six ensuite bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a formal dining room and lounge. Housekeeping and breakfast are included.

The Hacienda is perfect for the bridal party to share special moments while getting ready for the celebration. They can later join the assembled guests in the courtyard through the elegant curved double staircase.

Two guest restrooms

The Estate Chapel and Garden

Set apart in a quiet terrace garden, the estate's chapel (currently under construction, render shown for illustrative purposes) offers a timeless setting for transcendent moments in life.

Inspired by European country chapels, its proportions are intentionally modest. Intimate ceremonies for up to 30 guests take place in the candlelit interior space. Larger ceremonies up to 100 guests are held in the garden, with the beautiful Renaissance style façade as a dramatic backdrop for the ceremony.

Far in the distance, the silhouette of Agua Volcano witnesses the proceedings.

To aid planning:

The Estate Chapel is non-denominational and is a space open to all faiths as well as secular celebrations. It has no images or religious iconography. You can decorate it to suit your ceremony.

The Estate Chapel is 60 square meters: 6 meters wide by 10 meters long (608 square feet: 19' by 32').

The garden in front of the chapel is 144 square meters: 6 meters wide by 24 meters long (1,482 square feet: 19' by 78')

The Palladian Villa

Set in a separate area, the Palladian Villa is the manor home of the estate.

Modeled after the Renaissance villas in the Veneto region in Italy, it is a unique architectural statement perfectly integrated with its rugged surroundings.

Upon special arrangement, the manor is made available for unique photography sessions.

Photography sessions for couple and bridal party are two hours long

The Villa is not open for guests during wedding events

The Nest

An independent self-contained artist's loft is also available in the estate, with two ensuite bedrooms, kitchen and social areas, and a private terrace.

This space is ideal for guests and family, the groom's and best man's den, or as a private retreat space for the couple. It is also a great honeymoon cottage!
